Homes in New Jersey take a beating. From the hot summer sun to the chill of winter, your siding has to protect everything inside from the elements, which means it needs to be strong, resilient, and long-lasting. It’s also great if it looks good all the while, right?
As your resident New Jersey siding experts, we’ve replaced the siding on thousands of homes over our 30+ years of operation in NJ, and we’ve seen it all. If you’re shopping for new siding and wondering which brand to pick, it can feel overwhelming with all of the available options, but don’t worry. We’ll help you make the decision that works for you.
First of all: there’s no one singular “best” siding brand for here in New Jersey. One brand might have the strongest material, but another might better fit your budget, or maybe the color and design you really want for your home is only available from a third. What’s important is getting the siding that is right for you, not some generic ideal that doesn’t exist.
Let’s explore the options and their pros and cons here, and if you want to discuss the specifics with us directly, you can contact us for a chat and a free estimate.

Is Alside Siding Worth It for NJ Homes?
First up in the siding brands is Alside. Alside offers a range of different siding products in different materials, styles, and colors, which makes them one of the most flexible siding brands available here in NJ.
First up is their vinyl siding. Vinyl siding is incredibly common, for a lot of good reasons. It’s inexpensive, it’s easily manufactured across dozens of different kinds of designs and colors, and it’s fast and easy to install, keeping labor costs down.
On the other hand, vinyl is among the least durable siding materials. It can last 20-30 years, but it can start to fade after 10-15 years. It’s generally light and prone to cracking in freezing temperatures, especially if it’s exposed to a lot of freeze-and-thaw cycles. And, while it’s relatively durable, it’s still weak to impacts and high heat.

In addition to basic vinyl, Alside offers insulated vinyl siding. This “next-gen” vinyl siding has an additional foam underlayment that provides more strength, more durability, and most importantly, more insulation against the extreme hot and cold temperatures during peak seasons.
Alside also offers its line of ASCEND® siding. This product line is made of a unique composite material that blows vinyl out of the water in terms of durability. It’s longer-lasting, more durable, and has better resistance to everything from temperatures to moisture to direct heat exposure.
Finally, Alside also offers a line of steel siding. Steel is extremely durable, though it needs a special coating to resist corrosion, especially for the more coastal homes in some NJ neighborhoods. When maintained correctly, it can last a lifetime, but the burden is higher.
Alside is one of the most popular siding choices here in New Jersey because it fits the perfect middle ground of a premium-looking product with a lot of customization options, without the premium price tag. It’s a step above the budget lines of vinyl, but it’s not as premium as fiber cement or other high-end materials.
Is AZEK Siding Worth It for NJ Homes?
Next up is AZEK. AZEK is a brand that started life as a polymer company aiming to find ways to make a material more durable than wood. Their jump into exterior cladding came quickly after, as they found ways to create siding that looks and feels like wooden lab, board & batten, or shingle siding, made out of their polymers.
AZEK siding is made of a PVC composite blend, which is similar to vinyl, but thicker and more durable. It’s also great at holding texture and color over exposure to New Jersey weather, though it will need annual cleaning to make sure it maintains its vibrant look, and to remove any mold that can grow on the surface. This kind of annual maintenance is typical of nearly all siding products, so don’t let it hold you away from exploring AZEK as an option.

AZEK siding comes in a variety of styles, and they’re also designed to be painted so you can customize them to be any color you like. Or, their Timbertech line looks like natural wood, but won’t fade to gray over time, the way real wood will.
If you want siding that is a step up above vinyl, but still not quite the highest-end material on the market, AZEK siding is a great option. It’s durable, long-lasting, and has some of the best aesthetics of any siding brand available to NJ homeowners.
As of the end of 2025, AZEK was acquired by James Hardie. How that will impact product availability, warranties, or other details remains to be seen, but it’s worth knowing when you make your decision.
Is Certainteed Siding Worth It for NJ Homes?
Our third brand to discuss today is Certainteed. Certainteed is a very common brand of building materials, with all kinds of products available for both interiors and exteriors, all throughout the home. There’s a pretty good chance that at least something, somewhere in your home, is Certainteed.
Certainteed siding is premium vinyl siding, most comparable to Alside’s siding options. It shares all of the main pros and cons of vinyl siding in general; it’s affordable, it’s low-maintenance, it’s durable, and it comes in a ton of different styles. Conversely, it’s more sensitive to weather, it can fade under the sunlight, and it might not last as long as other materials.

Where Certainteed excels is in its variety of aesthetic options. Most siding brands have basic lap siding, simple board & batten siding, and usually some kind of cedar shingle siding. Certainteed has multiple variations of all of those, as well as sleek and contemporary panel designs, a stone-mimic veneer style, and some unique beaded lap designs as well.
Color options are widely varied as well. Many of Certainteed’s siding products come in anywhere from 14 colors at the minimum to as many as 37 different color options for lines like Monogram. You’re pretty much guaranteed to find something that fits your home in their catalog.
Certainteed also offers a variety of additional products that are designed to match your siding. Trim, soffits, and porch ceilings, for example, can all be found with identical or complementary designs.
Is James Hardie Siding Worth It for NJ Homes?
Fourth on the list is James Hardie, makers of their eponymous Hardie Board siding. Hardie Board is a kind of fiber cement siding, which is a material made of cement, sand, cellulose, and various additives for color, durability, and strength.
Hardie Board is quite possibly one of the most durable kinds of siding for a home this side of actual stone. It’s extremely resilient to pretty much everything; it resists both cold and heat, it’s fire-resistant, it wards off pests and mold, and it’s heavy enough that even high winds don’t do a thing.
James Hardie siding is extremely durable, but it’s also beautiful. Hardie siding comes in traditional plank lap, beaded artisan lap, board & batten panels, large architectural panels, and even a cedar shingle style. Each of these also tends to come in a handful of different finishes, from smooth or a subtle woodgrain to much deeper and more visible woodgrain patterns. Color options are fairly robust as well, and it can also be primed for paint, so you can put any color on it that you want.

If it’s strong and gorgeous, what’s the catch? There are a couple. For one thing, while it comes in a handful of styles, it has nothing on Alside or Certainteed in terms of sheer variety. It requires a little more maintenance than vinyl or composite siding, too, since it needs to be re-sealed against moisture every handful of years.
As a premium, high-end material, you’re also looking at one of the higher costs for siding with James Hardie. It’s more costly than vinyl on its own, and since it’s heavy and difficult to work with, it requires more time and skill to install properly, adding to labor costs. Though since James Hardie siding has the potential to last 30-50 years, it easily outlasts pretty much any other kind of siding, which saves you money in the long run.
Is Royal Siding Worth It for NJ Homes?
Royal is the last (but not least) siding brand on our list today. Royal is perhaps most comparable to Certainteed, with a twist. Their range of products is extensive, but in a different way.
Royal offers siding in premium vinyl, a PVC composite similar to AZEK, and even aluminum. Vinyl and composite you already know about; aluminum is more unique. It’s durable but light, resistant to temperature and weather, and it’s even particularly resistant to corrosion in seaside coastal areas. Aluminum siding can last 50+ years if well-maintained, and that’s nothing to sneeze at!

Royal is often sought after for some of their aesthetic options, as well. Some of their premium product lines are extraordinarily stunning, designed with a premium look in mind, and their colors are bold and pop.
Another reason to go with Royal is their commitment to sustainability. Their products emphasize eco-friendly manufacture and are recyclable at the end of their lifespan, which is somewhat unique among siding brands.
If there’s any drawback to Royal, it’s simply that it’s not the most popular brand, which means it’s not as readily available, especially if you’re hoping for one of their less popular colors or designs. There’s sometimes a bit of lead time before their siding can be delivered, which can extend the timeline of your home renovation project.
Other Brands
The five main brands we’ve listed above are the brands we personally trust and stand by. At Magnolia Home Remodeling, we’re fully certified to install all of these brands, and we’ve helped New Jersey homeowners with projects involving all of these brands for decades. We believe that you can’t go wrong if you pick one of them.

There are, though, other brands on the market. Whether it’s companies like Ply Gem, ProVia, Kaycan, or someone else, there are many different options. But there are often reasons not to go with them over one of the brands we’ve selected. For example:
- Some are only offered through select distributors and are hard to locate.
- Some are lower in quality or durability for their price or the comparable products.
- Some just don’t stand up well to all of the climate and environment challenges New Jersey can throw at them.
If you’re really interested in an alternative brand, feel free to ask us about it. We may be able to work with you to get what you want, or offer an alternative with a similar design or price point, but better performance for the New Jersey climate.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best siding brand for homes in New Jersey?
There is no single “best” siding brand for New Jersey. The right choice depends on your budget, style preferences, and durability needs. Brands like Alside, AZEK, Certainteed, James Hardie, and Royal each offer unique advantages. For example, James Hardie fiber cement is extremely durable, while Alside offers a great balance of quality and affordability. Our team can help you compare options and find the perfect fit for your home during a free consultation.
Which siding material lasts the longest in New Jersey’s climate?
James Hardie fiber cement siding is one of the longest-lasting options, with a potential lifespan of 30 to 50 years. It resists heat, cold, fire, pests, mold, and high winds. Aluminum siding from Royal can also last 50 or more years when properly maintained and is especially resistant to coastal corrosion. While vinyl siding is more affordable, it typically lasts 20 to 30 years and may begin fading after 10 to 15 years. Your ideal choice depends on balancing longevity with your budget.
Is vinyl siding a good option for New Jersey homes?
Vinyl siding is a popular and budget-friendly choice for many New Jersey homeowners. It comes in a wide variety of styles and colors, requires low maintenance, and is quick to install, which keeps labor costs down. However, it is less durable than fiber cement or composite materials and can crack in freezing temperatures or fade under prolonged sun exposure. Insulated vinyl, like Alside’s offerings, adds extra strength and energy efficiency, making it a stronger option for handling New Jersey’s seasonal extremes.
Do you offer financing for siding replacement projects?
Yes, Magnolia Home Remodeling Group offers financing options to help make your siding project fit within your budget. Delaying siding replacement can lead to moisture damage or pest intrusion behind your walls, so we aim to make it accessible for every homeowner.
