Nov 11, 2018 : Considering Your Options in Cabinet Materials When Doing A Kitchen Renovation In NJ

Everyone loves getting a kitchen renovation in NJ, and it’s little wonder why.  Your kitchen is the beating heart of your home, and one of the rooms which can most directly express your own personality and sense of style to anyone who visits.  Better yet, kitchens have a huge impact on a home’s value. If you’re thinking of selling your home in the future, there are few better investments you can make than a kitchen renovation.

Of course, when renovating, you have a lot of options when it comes to the materials you use.  This will have a big impact on both the look and feel of the kitchen, as well as its utility value.  In this article, our team at Magnolia Home Remodeling takes a look at some of the different materials you could use for your cabinetry.

Three Great Materials for NJ Kitchen Cabinet Renovation

Solid Hardwood

Solid woods are probably the most popular option for kitchen cabinets.  Wood is warm, inviting, and helps make a kitchen feel “homey”.  Better yet, solid woods are quite resilient and can stand up to many years of use.  Some of the most popular options in hardwood cabinets include Oak, Hickory, Cherry, Birch, Pine, and Maple.  Any of those could make for gorgeous, long-lasting cabinets.

Medium-Density Fiberboard

The issue with solid wood is, of course, it’s a relatively expensive material.  There are plenty of reconstituted options in cabinet materials, although it’s risky to choose materials like particleboard since it’s not particularly strong.  We find that medium-density fiberboard is a great middle-point.  It has a look and feel much like real wood, and is nearly as strong, but is made from reconstituted wood so it’s much cheaper.

It’s also a good choice if you want relatively neutral cabinetry which doesn’t distract from the appliances, counters, or other fixtures.

Stainless Steel

If someone doesn’t want wood in their kitchen, stainless steel is usually the best alternative.  A stainless-steel kitchen is going to look sleek and modern, guaranteed to wow anyone who walks in.  Just be aware that stainless steel is an expensive material to work with, and it requires a commitment to upkeep. Regular cleaning and polishing is a must.
